Raising Financially Smart Kids Session 2 (Ages 6-8)

Saving & Choices – Kids can understand trade-offs. This session, we are focusing on ages 6-8.  This is an exciting stage because kids are ready to move beyond simple awareness and begin practicing real-world money habits. At this age, children can start connecting money with choices, responsibility, and goals. They can begin understanding that money is limited, that decisions have tradeoffs, and that saving helps them work toward something meaningful. The goal is not to make them experts. The goal is to help them build confidence and healthy habits one small step at a time.

Raising Financially Smart Kids Session 3 (Ages 9-12)

Earn, Save, Spend, Plan - This is a really important stage because kids are beginning to want more independence, more ownership, and more say in the decisions they make. That makes it a great time to help them build practical money habits in a guided way. They are old enough to begin understanding tradeoffs, planning, effort, and responsibility, but they still benefit greatly from parent coaching and structure. Ages 9 to 12 are a strong time for money learning because children are becoming more independent in many areas of life. They often want more freedom, more choices, and more responsibility. That creates an opportunity. Instead of waiting until the teen years to begin talking about money in practical ways, parents can begin now, while children are still open to guidance and practice. This is a great time to help them build practical money habits in a guided way.
